Veteran Journalist Amitabha Chowdhury passed away at 88

Amitabha Chowdhury, veteran journalist, writer and renowned Tagore researcher on 2 May 2015 passed away in Kolkata due to prolonged illness. He was 88.

He was associated with three leading Bengali dailies Anandabazar Patrika, Jugantar and Aajkal for more than three decades.

Also, he authored around 40 books, which mostly explored various facets of Rabindranath Tagore.

He was born in 1928 in Silchar. In 1956, he joined Anandabazar Patrika as a reporter, embarking on a profession that brought him much fame, acclaim and accolades apart from numerous awards throughout an illustrious career.

His Awards

•He was awarded the Padmashree in 1983.
•He was awarded the Bangavibhushan by the state government in 2013.
•He received the Ramon Magsaysay Award for his reporting on individual rights and community interests in India.
