Chess Legend and five-time World champion, Viswanathan Anand has been appointed as the new Ambassador for World Wildlife Fund (WWF) India’s Environment Education programme. He will support wildlife conservation and educate children across the country on issues related to the environment.

The Jallianwala Bagh massacre had taken place on April 13, 1919 when General Dyer had ordered British troops to open fire on an unarmed crowd of people who had gathered at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar to peacefully protest against the Rowlatt Act.

The International Monetary Fund has predicted India’s Growth Rate to be 1.9 percent in 2020 from 5.8 per cent in January. The international body has predicted 1.2 percent growth rate for China in 2020. Only India and China will register positive growth in 2020 despite COVID-19 pandemic, as per IMF data.

The Reserve Bank of India has reduced the fixed Reverse Repo Rate by 25 basis points from 4 percent to 3.75 percent with immediate effect, Policy Repo rate is however unchanged.
India is set to host the 2020 Asian Boxing Championships, which be held between November-December 2020. The formal announcement will be made by the Asian Boxing Confederation once the COVID-19 situation improves a bit.

The Director General of the World Health Organisation is Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. He is an Ethiopian microbiologist and internationally recognized malaria researcher. He is serving as the Director-General of WHO since 2017.

The United States on April 13, 2020 approved the sale of Harpoon Block II air-launched missile and torpedoes to India. The lightweight torpedoes and anti-ship missiles will be worth USD 155 million and will be integrated with the P-81 aircraft.

RMS Titanic sank, which was carrying around 2000 passengers and crew, sank at 2.20 am on April 15, 1912. The British ocean liner had hit an iceberg about two and half hours before it sank in the North Atlantic Ocean, 400 miles south of Newfoundland, Canada.

The International Day of Human Space Flight 2020 was observed on April 12, 2020. The day is observed to commemorate the beginning of space era for humankind. The marks the date if the first human space flight, which was carried out by Yuri Gagarin, the first human being to journey into outer space.
