1. (a) Rajiv Gauba committee
The Union government has constituted a high-level committee to suggest laws against mob lynching and violence. The high-level committee, headed by the Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, will submit its suggestions to the Home ministry within 4 weeks.

2. (b) 1881
The Lok Sabha on July 23, 2018 passed the Negotiable Instruments (Amendment) Bill, 2017 that seeks to amend the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.  The Act has amended to deal firmly with cheque bounce cases.

3. (c) July 26
India on July 26, 2018 celebrated the 19th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas to mark the success of ‘Operation Vijay’ and to remember the supreme sacrifice of the Indian soldiers who lost their lives during the 1999 India-Pakistan Kargil War.

4. (c) West Bengal
The West Bengal Assembly unanimously passed a resolution on July 26, 2018 to change the state’s name to Bangla. However, the change in name will only happen once the Union home ministry approves the resolution.

5. (a) Vodafone India and Idea Cellular
The Department of Telecom (DoT) on July 26, 2018 gave the final approval to the merger of Vodafone India and Idea Cellular. The approval for Vodafone-Idea merger came days after Idea Cellular and Vodafone India jointly paid Rs. 7,268.78 crore 'under protest' to the DoT.

6. (c) Bharat Vatwani and Sonam Wangchuk
Two Indians, namely, Bharat Vatwani and Sonam Wangchuk on July 26, 2018 won the 2018 Ramon Magsaysay Award, the Asian version of the Nobel Prize. Bharat Vatwani is a psychiatrist who works for the mentally-ill street persons, while, Sonam Wangchuk works to harness science and culture creatively for economic progress that has improved the lives of the Ladakhi youth.

7. (d) Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf
Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) party on July 26, 2018 emerged as the single largest party after the Pakistan Elections 2018 that were held on July 25, 2018. With just the half of the votes counted, PTI secured 119 seats in the National Assembly. The majority mark in the National Assembly is 137 seats. However, Pakistan’s election commission has not yet released official final results.

8. (d) US
The first two-plus-two dialogue will be held between India and the United States in September 2018. The meet was announced last year during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with President Donald Trump. However, it was rescheduled twice since then.

9. (b) Johannesburg
The 10th edition of BRICS Summit began in Johannesburg, South Africa on July 25 with the theme- ‘BRICS in Africa: Collaboration for inclusive growth and shared prosperity in the 4th Industrial Revolution'. Attended by all the BRICS leaders, the BRICS Summit 2018 will be held from July 25 to July 27.

10. (a)  Mars
The red planet, Mars will make the closest approach to Earth in the last fifteen years on July 31, 2018. On that day, the two planets will be just 57.6 million kilometres apart. Prior to that during the total lunar eclipse on July 26, the planet will be in opposition.
