12 November:World Pneumonia Day
World Pneumonia Day was observed across world on 12 November 2014 with theme: Universal access to pneumonia prevention and care. The day was observed to create awareness about pneumonia.
The Global Coalition Against Child Pneumonia is comprised of NGOs, academic institutions, government agencies and foundations. It provides leadership for World Pneumonia Day and provides a strategic roadmap for combining care for diarrhea and pneumonia.
According to United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) data, Pneumonia is accounting for 15 percent of deaths or approximately 940000 children per year – but deaths from the disease have declined by 44 percent since 2000.

World Pneumonia Day was established in 2009, is marked every year to
• Raise awareness about pneumonia, the world’s leading killer of children under the age of five
• Promote interventions to protect against, prevent and treat pneumonia
• Generate action to combat pneumonia
