Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali, the prosecutor who was handling the Mumbai terror attack and Bhutto assassination case was gunned down in Islamabad.

Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali, a senior government prosecutor in Pakistan who was handling two major cases of Mumbai Terror Attacks of 2008 and assassination of the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto of 2007 was gunned down by unidentified gunmen on 3 May 2013 in the capital city Lahore.

Zulfiqar Ali was gunned down on his way to Rawalpindi, while he was proceeding ahead for a hearing in Benazir Bhutto assassination case. He was shot on his head, shoulder and chest during the attack.

Overview

Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali was the prosecutor of the two high profile cases in the Court of Pakistan namely, 26/11 Mumbai Attacks and Benazir Bhutto Assassination. Thus the attacks can be seen by linking the two major cases behind his murder. Zulfiqar was a highly competent prosecutor of Pakistan and had a huge experience of handling such high-profile cases.

Earlier, the ex-military ruler Parvez Musharraf returned back to the country on 24 March 2013 after a long self-imposed exile of four years to contest elections. On his return to the country he was placed under a two-week house arrest by the Federal Investigation Agency in Pakistan over the charges of conspiring to murder Bhutto.

Thus the killing of Zulfiqar Ali can be seen linked with some or the other incidences that followed as few days back he asked the government to increase his security.
