Bank Union Strike Today: Are Banks Closed Today On September 11? Check Nationwide Strike Dates
Banks may face a nationwide strike tomorrow, September 11, as bank employees have called a nationwide strike today, September 11. Check upcoming bank strike dates, services that may be affected, key demands and what customers should know.
Bank customers across the nation shall put their branch related banking plans on hold today. This is because the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has called for a nationwide bank strike on September 11, 2026, that is today. This strike raises concerns about possible disruptions in banking services.
The union is demanding the implementation of a five-day working week for all banks, along with a review of the revised Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. If the strike sees widespread participation, customers visiting bank branches may face difficulties with cash transactions, cheque-related work and account services. While digital banking and UPI services are expected to remain operational, it may be wise to check before making that urgent trip to the bank.
Banks To Remain On Strike On September 11
The September 11 bank strike has the support of several major bank unions under the UFBU. These include AIBEA, AIBOC, NCBE, AIBOA, BEFI, INBEF and INBOC. Together, these unions represent a large number of bank employees across India and are supporting the nationwide strike.
This is not it, this situation will become more challenging for customers as the bank strike will be followed by the regular weekend holidays on Saturday, September 12, and Sunday, September 13.
When Are the Upcoming Bank Strikes In September And October 2026?
| Bank Strike Date | Strike Details |
| September 11, 2026 | One-day nationwide bank strike |
| September 28–30, 2026 | Three-day nationwide bank strike |
| From October 26, 2026 | Indefinite nationwide strike if demands are not addressed |
If Banks Go On Nationwide Strike, These Services May Be Affected
- Bank branches: Branches may remain closed, so customers may not be able to visit for regular banking work.
- Cash deposits and withdrawals: Cash-related services at bank branches could be disrupted.
- Cheque services: Cheque clearing and processing may be delayed.
- NEFT/RTGS and other services: Some banking transactions and back-office services could face delays.
- Loans and other bank work: Loan processing, account-related work and other branch services may be affected or delayed.
What Are Bank Unions Demanding?
Bank unions are demanding work weeks to be five days for all banks. The UFBU says the Indian Banks' Association (IBA) agreed to the proposal in March 2024. Bank workers would work an extra 40 minutes every day from Monday to Friday, and Saturdays would be holidays. But it looks like the implementation of the scheme is yet to be cleared.
The unions also want the modified Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) to be revised. They want PLI to depend on the overall performance of the bank. The unions have said that the decision on the revised PLI scheme should be taken considering the previous agreement between them and the IBA.
