On January 22, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is inaugurating the much-awaited Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. PM Modi is scheduled to preside over the "pran-pratishtha" or consecration ceremony. The pran-pratishtha ceremony is scheduled to begin at 12:20 p.m. and will go on until 1:00 p.m.
The ceremony is being held three days after Ram Lalla’s idol was positioned at the Ram Mandir's "garbha griha" on January 18. The idol of one of the most revered deities of Hinduism is 51 inches tall and made of black stone by the capable hands of sculptor Arun Yogiraj from Mysuru. The idol depicts the beloved deity in a boyish form, standing tall and graceful on a lotus. Lord Ram is adorned with gold, diamonds, gemstones, and flowers.
Apart from the Prime Minister, many politicians, film stars, and sports personalities, among other dignitaries, are present at the Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir for the opening ceremony. At the end of the ceremony, a military helicopter circled over the temple, showering the enormous structure and the dignitaries below with petals of flowers.
