IPL 2025: Dhoni Takes Over CSK Captaincy After Gaikwad Injury Setback
"Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the IPL due to a fractured elbow, paving the way for MS Dhoni to return as captain," head coach Stephen Fleming told reporters on Thursday.
Dhoni boasts an outstanding leadership record, having captained CSK in 235 matches and leading them to five IPL titles in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023.
In 2022, Ravindra Jadeja was appointed skipper, but Dhoni had to retake the reins midway through the season after a series of poor results. Prior to the 2024 season, Dhoni had passed the captaincy baton to Gaikwad.
However, CSK is currently struggling, placed second-last in the points table with just one win from five games. They also suffered their biggest-ever home defeat in 18 years of IPL history at the hands of Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
