India is called a country of diversity, which is known for its culture and unique traditions. At present, there are 28 states and 8 union territories in India. All these states and union territories have their own specialty. We know about Chandigarh, which is the capital of two states, Punjab and Haryana.

However, some states in India have not one but two capitals. Read this article to know which are these states.

Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh is one of the most beautiful states of India, known for its natural beauty and open valleys. Situated in the foothills of the Himalayas, this state is known for its two capitals.

The capital of this state in summer is Shimla, and in winter its capital is Dharamshala. Two capitals have been decided because of the extreme cold during winter. Because many major routes get closed when it snows here. This is the reason why Himachal Pradesh has two capitals. This state attracts millions of tourists every year.

Uttarakhand

The state of Uttarakhand is also known as Devbhoomi. This state is also known for its natural beauty and peaceful environment. It attracts a large number of tourists every year, and tourism is the main business here.

The state of Uttarakhand also has two capitals. In the summer season, the capital here is Gairsain, while in the winter season, the state capital becomes Dehradun. Uttarakhand is also known as the 'Land of Gods' or 'Dev Bhoomi' because of its many Hindu pilgrimage sites and shrines.

Ladakh

After the historic decision taken on Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh is known as a separate union territory. The rugged valleys and passes here make it the most isolated place in India. However, despite being a union territory, it has two unofficial capitals, one of which is Leh and the other is Kargil.

Karnataka

Karnataka is one of the major states of South India, which is known for its historical heritage. Bengaluru is the administrative capital, and Belagavi is considered the second capital. But, in some books, Bengaluru is considered the only capital of Karnataka. However, local people are familiar with its second capital.
