Following the partial success of the Bharat Bandh on August 21, Maharashtra is preparing for a state-wide bandh called by the opposition. The Maharashtra Bandh is scheduled for tomorrow, August 24.
According to the state's Assembly opposition leader, the bandh has been jointly called by all three opposition alliance parties, with support from other parties as well.
Who Called for Maharashtra Bandh 2024?
The Maharashtra Bandh 2024 is called by the Maharashtra opposition alliance, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) on August 24. MVA allies consist of the Indian National Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) led by Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar headed NCP (SP).
Vijay Wadettiwar, the leader of the opposition in the state assembly issued a statement in front of the media confirming that all MVA allies will participate in the bandh, along with other political parties of the state.
Opposition Leader’s Stand on Maharashtra Bandh
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut explained that the bandh is in response to the Badlapur incident, which has upset many people in Maharashtra. FIRs have been filed against the protesters.
NCP-SCP leader Jitendra Awhad emphasized the need for the bandh due to rising criminal activities, stating that the current government is unconstitutional.
Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat also supported the bandh, citing the seriousness of the Badlapur incident.

Key Reason for Maharashtra Bandh 2024
The main reason for the Maharashtra Bandh is the opposition's protest against the sexual abuse of two minor girls in the premises of a school.

What Happened in Badlapur?
Two kindergarten girls were allegedly sexually abused by a worker of the school's cleaning staff in Badlapur, Maharashtra. The incident took place last week. However, the police arrested a school attendant suspected of abusing the girls on August 17. The incident led to widespread anger and protest in the community.
On August 22, the Bombay High Court took suo motu by acknowledging the reported assault. According to ANI, officials informed the court that a comprehensive investigation is underway and assured that it will be conducted thoroughly without any errors.
