The Pharmacy council of India is statutory body constituted under the Pharmacy act, 1948. It is responsible for regulation of pharmacy education and practice of profession in the country for registration as a pharmacist. At present there are 523 approved institutions imparting diploma in Pharmacy to 31,513 students per annum and 326 approved institutions imparting Degree in pharmacy to 19,125 students per annum. At present about 5.59 Lakh pharmacists are registered with various state pharmacy councils.
