Udaipur
The city of lakes and Venice of east, Udaipur, was declared as the world’s best city in a poll by Travel and Leisure magazine. Each year, readers take part in a survey to vote for their favorite travelrelated destinations and accommodations as part of the magazine’s annual ‘World’s Best Awards’. With this achievement, Udaipur became the first south Asian hot spot to get the prestigious title. 

Swat
Swat is valley and an administrative district in the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan. It is a place of great natural beauty that used to be popular with tourists as ‘the Switzerland of Pakistan’. The valley was captured by the Taliban insurgency in 2008. In April, 2009, the Pakistani government began a military offensive and regained control over most of the region.

Macau                                                                                                                                                                                                                          The 2009 International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) award ceremony was held in Macau from June 11 to 13. The awards  presented annually by the academy to honour excellence of professionals in the Hindi Film Industry are held in different countries around the world every year.

Sharm-el-Sheikh                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              The Fifteenth Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit was held in Egypt’s Sharm-el-Sheikh in the month of July. Heads of Government of 118 developing nations discussed issues related to the global economic downturn, terrorism, climate change and food security during the summit.

Yekaterinburg                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  The 1st BRIC Summit took place in Yekaterinburg, Russia on June 16. BRIC is an acronym that refers to the fast-growing developing economies of Brazil, Russia, India, and China. Lula daSilva, Dimitry Medvedev, Manmohan Singh and Hu Jintao, the respective heads of the government of the BRIC nations attended the summit.

Raebareli
The foundation of the country’s third rail coach factory was laid in Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli. The proposed factory will produce 1,000 coaches annually, which will enable Indian Railways wipe out arrears of over-aged and olddesign coaches.

Hyderabad
A helicopter manufacturing unit is going to be set up in Hyderabad. Tata Advanced System Limited (TAS), a unit of Tata group, signed an agreement with the US-based Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. for the project. The Rs 1,000- crore project will be commissioned by June next year and will come up at a 50-acre facility in the SEZ on land leased by the state government- owned Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC).

Pittsburgh
The third G20 summit took place in Pittsburgh, USA between 24 and 25 September. Leaders from the world’s top 20 economies  participated in the summit.

Taregana
Hundreds of thousands people were gathered in Taregana, a small village near Patna in Bihar on July 22 to get the best view of total Solar eclipse. Taregana was billed as one of the ideal places to watch total eclipse by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). However an overcast sky disappointed the people. Taregana used to be the astronomical observatory of great mathematician and astronomer Aryabhatta.

Jaipur                                                                                                                                                                                                                              A huge fire broke out at the Indian Oil Corporation oil depot in Jaipur on October 29. The incident occurred when petrol was being transferred from the Indian Oil Corporation's oil depot to a pipeline. The blaze continued to rage out of control for over a week after killing 12 persons and injuring over 200 other.

Pune
The cultural capital of Maharashtra, Pune was the worst affected city by H1N1 virus in India. Country’s first death due to swine flu was reported in Pune only. Later, the city recorded the highest number of H1N1 deathsin the country with 125 victims.
