Significance
Chaitra Navratri symbolizes the victory of good over evil through the story of Goddess Durga's battle against Mahishasura. The story behind this festival is about the battle between Goddess Durga and the Demon Mahishasura. When gods were unable to defeat him, due to the boon given by Lord Brahma, they asked Goddess Durga for help. She mounted a lion and had a powerful battle that went on for 9 days and nights after which, she finally got victory over Mahishasura.

Regional Practices in India
- Gujarat: It is known for vibrant Garba dances and fasting rituals. People worship a clay pot called garbo, representing the womb and source of life.
