Most people think of Egypt when they hear about pyramids. But another country, Sudan, actually has the most pyramids in the world.
Sudan is a country next to Egypt, along the Nile River. A long time ago, there was a kingdom there called Kush. The people of Kush built about 220 to 255 pyramids. They used these pyramids as tombs for their kings and queens. The pyramids were mostly in two cities called Napata and Meroë.
These pyramids in Sudan are different from the ones in Egypt. They are smaller and skinnier, with sides that go up very steeply. They were often made from red rock.
The Kush people started building these pyramids around 800 BC. This was after the time when Egypt built most of its big pyramids. The Kush people saw the pyramids in Egypt and were inspired by them. They even ruled Egypt for a while. But they made their own kind of pyramids.
Building pyramids was something the Kush kingdom did for many years. The city of Meroë alone has over 200 pyramids. This means Sudan has more pyramids than any other country. But not many people know about them, and they don't get as many visitors as the pyramids in Egypt. So, they are a special but often forgotten historical treasure.
