Days after the decision that came from NTA about Aadhaar not being mandatory for the JEE Main 2019 registration, the decision from the Supreme Court has just arrived that Aadhaar card is no longer required for the CBSE and NEET examination. The Supreme Court has released its verdict on the petitions made challenging the constitutional validity of the Aadhaar Act. As per the reports, a five-judge bench, led by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, reserved its verdict in the case on May 10 after a 38-day hearing. The bench, also comprising Justices A K Sikri, A M Khanwilkar, D Y Chandrachud, and Ashok Bhushan, has delivered the final verdict. There are three separate judgments today from Justices Sikri, Chandrachud and Bhushan. The CJI and Justice Khanwilkar will not deliver separate judgments and have concurred with Justice Sikri.
The SC verdict on Aadhar Act is now live and so is the decision on usage of Aadhaar in schools, colleges, and other entrance examinations. The Supreme Court has brought relief to many parents and students by confirming that Aadhaar Card cannot be made mandatory for school admissions. The apex court further states that CBSE and any other body corporate cannot make Aadhaar mandatory for students applying for engineering and medical entrance examinations like NEET, JEE, etc.
The NTA stated in its notification earlier this month that Aadhar details is not required for the JEE Main registration. “The Aadhaar number is only one of the types of identification and is not mandatory,” the testing agency said issuing a notification. “The candidates can also enter passport number, ration card number, bank account number or “any other valid government identity number,” it added.
