Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University has launched a new Postgraduate Diploma programme Fire and Life Safety Audit. The course will begin from the 2020-21 academic session and the programme will be introduced in technical collaboration with the National Fire Service College, Nagpur to support and train the fire fighting professionals in the country.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia will be inaugurating the IP University postgraduate diploma programme at the Delhi Secretariat today along with IPU Vice-Chancellor Professor Mahesh Verma who will be presiding over the inauguration. The other dignitaries at the function include Minister of Industries Satyender Jain and Fire Advisor, Directorate of Fire Services, Civil Defence CK Shami.
Admission Details
The programme has an intake of 50 students and according to reports, all the seats will be filled by senior serving government officers and officers of prominent industries. The programme will also provide a standard methodology of procedure and format to help conduct the fire safety audit. The programme will also help in uncovering the potential of the professionals to serve the Fire and Life Safety Institutions along with the society in a better way.
Professor Amarjeet Kaur, Director of CDMS while speaking about the programme stated that by starting the programme the institution will get the opportunity to call the Fire and Life Safety institutions to encourage and nominate their employees to take advantage of the programme through the Centre for Disaster Management Studies (CDMS). He further stated that the trained officials will be able to help identify the areas which require immediate attention in the different occupancies for timely corrective action.
He also pointed out that the Fire and Life Service Audit is a mandatory requirement according to the legal provisions of the government and the university is confident that the programme will provide opportunities for the fire professionals to access greater knowledge along with the training available already. This is the first time that such a course has been launched by any university in the country.
