Odisha School Reopening: The Odisha State Government in its latest order has ordered reopening of primary schools throughout the state from 3rd January 2022 onwards. The decision to resume physical classes for students of 1st to 5th Class was announced by School and Mass Education Minister S R Dash in a press conference on Tuesday. With this decision, offline classes for students of Class 1 to 5 will resume next Monday onwards. The decision will see reopening of over 27000 primary schools in the state and resume offline classes nearly after an year of being closed due to COVID-19 emergency.
Parents’ Consent Mandatory to Attend School
While the state government has made provisions for schools to reopen for primary class students, the final decision about attending these offline classes would remain with parents. Like it was done for students of higher classes, parents’ consent has been kept as the mandatory condition for any student who wants to attend offline classes in primary schools of the state. For those students and parents, who are not confident or comfortable attending offline classes, schools have been asked to make provision for online classes to continue as well. The classes would be held for 3 hours from 9 am to 12 pm. All schools who would be resuming offline classes have been directed to follow COVID-19 precautionary protocols. As part of these measures, mid-day meals will not be served to the students.
Class 10 Summative Exams from 5th to 8th January
Another important aspect about reopening of primary schools in Odisha is that for students of schools where Class 10 Summative Exams are scheduled to be held; the schools will resume for physical classes from 10th January. As per the schedule floated by BSE Odisha, Class 10 Summative Assessment Exam is to be held from 5th to 8th January 2021 at various schools.
While Education Minister announced reopening of schools for primary students, earlier in the week Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik directed officials to start drawing out plans to handle possible 3rd wave of COVID-19 in the state.
