As per reports, the UP state government has decided to provide scholarships to all students studying in Sanskrit Schools in the state. The condition that students must belong to families with an annual income below Rs. 50,000 has been scrapped by the government.
CM Yogi Adityanath stated that the government will also increase the scholarship amount for students from classes 9 to 12 in Sanskrit Schools. As per the revised scheme, students will be awarded an amount between Rs 50 and Rs. 200 per month.
Secondary Education Minister Gulab Devi stated that since most of the children receiving Sanskrit education belong to poor families, a provisional has been made to provide scholarships to students of Prathama (Classes 6, 7 and 8) under Sanskrit Education.
Rs. 50 will be given per month to children from classes 6 and 7 and Rs. 75 to children from class 8. As per the earlier scheme, the students of Purva Madhyama classes 9 and 10 were given a monthly scholarship of Rs. 50 children from Uttar Madhyama classes 11 and 12 were given Rs. 80 per month. With the scheme revision in place, students from classes 9 and 10 will receive Rs. 100 per month and those in classes 11 and 12 will receive Rs. 200.
Only the children from families with an annual income below Rs. 50,000 were given a scholarship scheme which has been removed. At present, there are 517 Sanskrit schools where almost 1,21,573 students study. The revision will cost the exchequer over Rs. 19.65 crores, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said.
Applications for the scholarship scheme can be submitted in the offline mode while the online application system will be implemented from the next financial year onwards.
