Summary of A Triumph of Surgery
Mrs Pumphery was a rich lady with a pet dog named Tricki. She was so fond of her that she kept on feeding some extra meals to him, thinking he had been losing out on his strength. Tricki also got habituated to overeating. His doctor, Mr. Herriot once saw him taking a walk with his mistress on the road. Seeing Tricki bloating like a sausage, he got worried and asked Mrs Pumphery about his schedule and eating habits. Soon he realised that Tricki might need some different treatment or he might have to bear some serious circumstances later. Mr. Herriot told Mrs. Pumphery about the changes she needs to make in Tricki’s diet and daily schedule to prevent him from falling ill. Both of them parted their ways and Mr Herriot was waiting for the call from Mrs Pumphery.
After a few days, he got the call and Mrs Pumphery told her that Tricki was falling ill. He refused food and just lay sad on the carpet. The doctor asked Mrs Pumphery to bring him to the hospital and let him stay there for some time. With tears in her eyes, she bid goodbye to the dog and his doctor took him away to take good care of him.
Initially, Tricki would not entertain the pack of dogs and their energy level since he was way too lethargic. Slowly, he started adapting to his new environment and started mingling with other dogs. On the first day, Mr. Herriot gave him only water and cut food from his entire diet. Then, he was put into the habit of running, grabbing, and working hard to get food. Tricki would have to run towards the bowl to grab some food or else his other mates would eat all of them.
Meanwhile, Mrs Pumphery would call at least 15 times a day to know about Tricki’s position. Within two weeks, Tricki was healthy and ready to go home. The doctor called Mrs Pumphery and asked her to take her dog back home. In no time, she came there in her fancy car with a chauffeur who would take Tricki’s essentials back to her home along with both of his masters. Seeing Tricki healthy and happy, Mrs Pumphery went teary-eyed and thanked the doctor for a triumph of surgery.
