In the times when people cannot keep their attention intact beyond 140 characters (thanks to twitter addiction), writing a great college assignment which binds the reader till the end can be an uphill task. Most of the students don't take these college assignments seriously and are only concerned with getting done with them before the deadline. This is not an ideal approach as they miss out on so much of learning which could actually help them in getting marks and also enhance their writing skills.

While the requirements for writing a college assignment change from stream to stream, there are some general rules which apply to every kind of assignment writing. Similarly, there are certain specific tips and tricks that you can employ in while writing your college assignment to enhance your learning experience and also to ensure that you get good grades for your hard work.

Here are some steps that will help you to churn out great college assignments on time and also win the trust and respect of your professors easily.

    Research Your Topic Well

You should start your assignment by understanding what you have been asked to do. If you are writing a technical assignment, it would be good to do proper research and be well versed with the fundamental concepts. If it is an arts paper, consider different perspectives from which the topic can be approached and written. You can always approach your teachers to help you with understanding things better.

    Create a Blueprint

The initial writing should be about penning down the first set of ideas that cross your mind. Do not worry about the grammatical errors and sentence structuring at this stage. Get into the groove of writing and make a rough sketch around which your entire assignment will be written. You can always go back and forth and make revisions but the general idea should be clear in your mind.

    Make use of Classroom Notes

Sure that 1 hour lecture is too much to handle but between those small naps you took in the class, the professor taught some important things which could have made your assignment a lot richer in terms of content. Using classroom notes also helps your case in front of the teacher as they realize you paying attention to them while they were teaching.

    Formatting is the Key

Format of the assignment is very essential factor in helping you set a good first impression on the evaluator. In most cases, the college lays down the guidelines regarding the font size and type making it easy for the students. However, sometimes the students have to figure things out themselves and in such a scenario it would be good to consult professors and seniors and maybe even see projects from previous years for reference.

    Write Small Paragraphs

People dread reading never-ending stretches of text. Try to segregate your ideas into points and sub points, which will not only make the assignment pleasing to the eyes but also highly comprehensible. The paragraphs should be linked to each other and the flow should not appear to be forced. Present the problem in one paragraph and the solution in another. Ideally a paragraph should not be more that 5-6 lines long but can be extended depending on the requirement.

    Keep the Language Easy

The general language of the paper should be easy because no one would want to take out a dictionary every two minutes while reading your assignment. Even if you know your teacher will understand those big words, it would be advisable to go for easy ones. If you are using technical terms, please be sure that the usage is correct otherwise the entire purpose of using them will fail, fetching you negative marks.

    Proof-Read the Assignment

The least you can do before submitting an assignment is not making grammatical or factual errors. These are the things you can control and with advanced technology it is easier than ever. This step will also help you to delete unnecessary or repetitive parts of the assignments so that the length is just as much is required. Proofreading will also help you to get a better hang of the topic and know specifically what you have written so that if the evaluator asks you questions, you are not blanked out.

    Meet the Deadline

Deadlines are there for a reason. Don't be someone who submits assignment after repeated warnings. This leaves an extremely negative impression in the minds of the teachers and something you should avoid keeping in mind your own schedule as well. One late assignments delays other projects as well, which will prove to be road bump to your overall study schedule, thus affecting your overall efficiency as a college student.

Other than these points, avoiding plagiarism and making good use of diagrams and pictures is a must. In the end, we would say that assignments should not be seen just as a way to get marks. Try to learn while writing so that you have lesser difficulty during the exams.
