• The Supreme Court stayed the order of the broadcast tribunal TDSAT and raised the rates paid by cable operators for TV channels to 42 per cent.
• Reserve Bank of India formed a conglomerate cell within its supervisory set-up to keep a constant vigil on 12 large domestic and foreign banks.
• Aditya Birla Group acquired leading Swedish speciality pulp and bio-refinery company, Domsjo Fabriker.
• India-born Dr Siddhartha Mukherjee won Pulitzer Prize for his non-fiction book The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer.
• The Supreme Court of India banned employment of children in circus.

• Uttarakhand Governor, Margaret Alva approved of the APMC bill, which seeks to provide effective regulation in marketing of agricultural produces as well as establishment of proper marketing system.
• Oil regulator Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH) refused to approve Reliance Industries’ spending on KG-D6 gas fields.
• Former World junior champion and Grandmaster Abhijeet Gupta won the Dubai International Open chess title.
• The Supreme Court in India declared Khap Panchayats are illegal.

• India's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) launched India's remote sensing satellite Resourcesat-2 from the spaceport of Sriharikota.
• State Bank of India decided to discontinue with its much debated ‘teaser' home loan scheme.
• Tata Steel signed a licensing agreement with British-Australian mining major Rio Tinto for development of direct iron smelting process called HIsarna.
• Supreme Court ruled that courts must not behave like super legislatures and weigh the wisdom of legislation or policy decision of the government.
• The Indian Council of Agricultural Research initiated a Rs 350-crore national programme to help farmers sustain agriculture, particularly in dryland.
• Union Cabinet of India approved the signing of Nagoya Protocol.
• Supreme Court of India expressed its concern on poverty in India.

• President of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Praful Patel appointed member of the Ad-Hoc Committee for Member Associations by the Asian Football Confederation.
• Indian government ordered constitution of an inter-ministerial group (IMG) to review India's foreign direct investment norms in the pharmaceutical sector.
• State-owned gas utility GAIL India honoured with the Outstanding PSU of the Year award by All India Management Association.
• CAG passed strictures against Maharashtra’s aid to Nanded Cooperative Bank.

• Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued a notification to put into force the norms on creation of the defence mechanism by banks.
