Nalin Prabhat, a 1992 batch of the Andhra Pradesh cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, appointed as DGP of J&K and to take charge from October 1, 2024 after the retirement of RR Swain on September 30, 2024. He previously served as Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG) from May 1, 2024 until August 15, 2024 and also served as the Additional Director General and Inspector General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Jammu and Kashmir.
Mr. Parabhat was born on March 14, 1968, in Thungri Village, Manali, Himachal Pradesh and completed his B.A. (hounours) and M.A. from Stephens College, Delhi. Earlier, Mr. Prabhat was awarded three times with the Police Medal for Gallantry with 2nd Bar, Parakram Padak (Wound Medal), Police Medal for Distinguished Service, Antrik Suraksha Padak (J&K) and Police (Spl Duty) Medal with Bar (J&K).
