Provisional Candidature in UPSC: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is a constitutional agency in India that recruits personnel for different civil services and government posts. It conducts numerous prominent examinations, including the Civil Services Examination (CSE), which chooses applicants for crucial government posts like the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Foreign Service (IFS).
Candidates selected for admission to all phases of the examination will initially be accepted on a provisional basis, subject to fulfilling the mandatory eligibility requirements. Only once an applicant qualifies for an interview or personality test will the commission begin verifying eligibility criteria using actual documents. The commission's decision will be final on a candidate's eligibility for admission to the examination.

What is Provisional Candidature in UPSC?
Provisional candidature in UPSC is a temporary status granted to candidates whose eligibility or paperwork is being reviewed. This shows that while the candidate is allowed to present for the subsequent procedure, their ultimate selection depends on the verification of their eligibility and documentation. If, on verification, at any time before or after the examination, it is found that candidates do not fulfil any of the eligibility conditions, their candidature for the examination will be cancelled by the commission.
If the claims of the candidates found to be incorrect, then this may result in disciplinary action by the commission in terms of the Rules for the Civil Services Examination. Check the list of criterias below that may lead to disqualification of the candidature in UPSC

What steps will UPSC take to verify Provisional candidature?
The UPSC will examine all the available records carefully and if found guilty of the provisions of the Rules of the CSE examination, it will cancel the candidature permanently and debar the candidate permanently from all future examinations and selections of the UPSC.
The UPSC will also carefully consider the requests of the candidates and in order to provide justice, it will provide the time to submit the response. If the candidate will not be able to give a response by the aforesaid date/time, the UPSC would take further action without entertaining any further requests.
