The schools under New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) are soon going to get ‘smart’ with their upcoming smart classrooms which will have computers, projectors and e-learning content from the upcoming academic session. Before the July session 30 of the 51 schools under NDMC will get 44 smart classrooms.
According to the Chairman of NDMC, Naresh Kumar, the content of the e-learning material will be based on NCERT syllabus and will be available both in Hindi and English. The senior secondary students will also get benefited from this move of NDMC as they will get digitized versions of last 10 years examination papers, interactive materials, standard lessons, various practice material and question banks.
In the next six months the NDMC has plans to upgrade the facilities of classes I to XII in various schools. This will further fulfill their plans for a smart city. The present capacity of the NDMC run schools are between 35000- 40000. But only 26000 students have enrolled in the NDMC schools this year. The new facilities are expected to lower the drop-out rate in these schools and improve the standards of learning. This will increase the number of enrolments in these schools. A new evaluation procedure for teachers will also come in place along with smart classrooms.
According to Mr. Kumar, “It will be a 360 degree evaluation system. One of the components will be student’s evaluation of teachers. This will help us improve standards.” NDMC has further plans to initiate mentoring programmes in schools for its students. Senior citizens will also be invited to these mentorship programmes to become mentor of these kids through advertisements, website requirements etc. These mentors will guide the students about their career choices, academic and skill development and undergo management and interaction with children.
