National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has started online application procedure for academic session 2018-2019. NIOS offers admissions to secondary, senior secondary as well as for vocational and basic education. Moreover, the students who failed in class 10 or class 12 board examinations can also take On-Demand Examinations to pass their class 10 or 12 board examinations in the same year of other board qualifying examination. For admissions to any course of NIOS board, students need to register for it and the application form of NIOS is available in online as well as offline mode.  Students seeking admissions to NIOS can check here the application process. When is the admission form of NIOS board available?

The application form of NIOS board for new learners is available two times a year as the board follows a bi-annual examination process. So, the students can apply for Block-I of stream 1 or Block-II of stream 1 every year. The application form for NIOS admissions under the two blocks are generally available as under -

Block I - From the third week of March to the last week of July (without late fee)

Block II - From the third week of September to the last week of January

The examinations for Block I students are held in April-May and for Block II students, the examinations are held in October-November of the admission year.

What is NIOS Eligibility Criteria?

The eligibility criteria of NIOS are the rules, which a student need to fulfill in order to be eligible for admissions to secondary or senior secondary level. The NIOS eligibility mainly includes age limit and academic qualification. Check below NIOS eligibility criteria as mentioned below -

Age Limit for Secondary course at NIOS - The students need to be 14 years of age at the time of admission

Age Limit for Senior Secondary course at NIOS - The students must have completed 15 years of age at the time of admission

Education Qualification for Secondary Course - Students must have passed Class 8 to be eligible

Education Qualification for Senior Secondary Course -Students must have completed class 10/secondary level of education from any recognised board of education.

How to apply for NIOS board admissions?

Online Application

Step 1 – Registration: students need to visit the official website of NIOS board and register themselves for admissions to any course. For registration, students have to fill their e-mail Id and set a password as mentioned in the images below –

After you click on'Admission', a new page will open up mentioning different streams/courses for a student to take admission in

You need to click on Stream 1, if you are applying to NIOS for the first time. Stream 2 is for students who have already appeared for the examinations but could not pass the examinations, Stream 3 is for On Demand Examinations at secondary level and Stream 4 for On Demand Examinations at Senior Secondary Level.

after you select Stream 1, a new page will open up where you need to click on 'Stream 1 - Online Admissions for all learners', 

You need to click on 'Register Now' for creating your account. But, before proceeding to create a new account. Read all important instructions as mentioned below

After reading all the important instructions, proceed to register for stream 1 of NIOS board by clicking on ' Register Now' mentioned at the top of Login window

You need to fill e-mail Id and create a password for your account.

Once, you submit the registration details, your account will be created and a message will be displayed confirming your registration.

In case, you forgot your password, you can recover it by clicking on 'Forgot Password' option available at Login Window.

Step 2 – Fill up the application form: Now, you can proceed to login and fill in the application form as mentioned below -

Read all instructions and proceed to fill the application form. 

Also, students can apply for Transfer of Credits in the same application form for NIOS.

Step 3 – Payment of application fee: Student can now pay the application and course fee as mentioned below -

  • The application fee can be paid either in online mode using Debit Card/Credit Card of VISA or Master payment system only and through Net Banking of any of Indian Nationalised Bank.
  • Or the application fee can be paid in offline mode using Demand Draft of nationalised bank, drawn in favour of Secretary, NIOS payable at respective Regional Centre. Check the list of regional centres.

Step 4 - Submission of printed application form: You need to submit all the details,and get a print copy of application form and send the application form after enclosing it with required documents and photograph (2 nos.). In case, you have submitted the application fee in online fee in online mode, then only the fee reciept is required but in case of offline fee submission, the demand draft is required to be submitted along with the application form on the official address as provided below under offline application process.

Offline application form –

Students can apply for NIOS board in offline mode also. To apply for offline admissions at NIOS check the procedure below -

Visit the 'Admissions' tab and click on Offline admission form as mentioned below -

  1. You'll be directed to new page with Offline application form link (see in image below).
  2. You need to click on this link and download the application form (for convinience of students, we have provided the offline application form link below).
  3. After downloading the application form, students need to fill it in their own handwriting completely and affix the photograph and sign at the specified spaces.
  4. You need to enclose the filled in application with required documents and Demand Draft and send it on the adress mentioned below -

How can I know my admission is confirmed by NIOS?

When a student submits his/her application form, the NIOS issues an application number/reference and after confirmation of their admission, they are issued Identity Card. However, if at any stage the student is found ineligible or the application form is not correct then their admission is cancelled by NIOS.
