OSSTET will soon be held in Odisha for recruiting secondary school teachers. The test will be held every year and will be a great move in teacher recruitment process.
Through OSSTET (Odisha Secondary School Teachers’ Eligibility Test) the Odisha government plans to recruit 7000 teachers in a phase manner. The examination will be organised by the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha.
Candidates who are interested to apply for OSSTET need to satisfy the desired educational qualification as prescribed by the Board. In addition to this, the candidates are also required to have basic qualification of Odia as MIL up to HSC level or higher exam or must have passed Odia as a subject in a specific examination conducted by BSE Odisha of HSC standard or have passed HSC examination of BSE, Odisha in Odia medium with MIL other than Odia.
OSSTET question paper will comprise of MCQs and candidates have to secure 60% marks in each subject to qualify the test. The duration of each of the paper will be 2.5 hours. OSSTET examination will be held for two categories of candidates. The first category will comprise of TG Science (PCM/ CBZ), TG Arts, Hindi Teacher, Classical Teacher (Sanskrit), Urdu teacher and Telugu teacher. The other category will consist of PET.
Citing the importance of the examination, Odisha government has stated that though OTET was mandatory for teacher’s recruitment, very less number of candidates could qualify it. This is the reason why the idea of conducting OSSTET was generated.
As of now, near about 40000 OTET qualifiers are waiting for their recruitment and 49000 seats are lying vacant in high schools and elementary schools in the State.
