Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), having almost 201 engineering colleges in Karnataka, is all set for special placement interview drive for all its girl students. The varsity has approached various multinational companies for carrying forward this initiative.
H Maheshappa, the Vice Chancellor of VTU said, “After the completed round of talks with the companies we will finalize the number of firms that will be on board.” Private firms have already been informed about the efficiency of women engineers and their commitment to work. Compared to boys the girls change their jobs less and thus they are more responsible to the companies they work in. He said, “We learnt this during our discussions with the companies.” IBM is scheduled to come for placement interviews in Bengaluru on February 6 and 8 of this year. Last year IBM conducted a similar interview at Mangaluru Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management.
In order to give equal chance to students reading in colleges of small cities where these MNC’s don’t usually visit, VTU has established a centralized placement cell, in which the students can take up an online test on VTU’s website. The students who could successfully crack the test through the website would get a chance to go to the colleges where these MNC’s are taking up interviews.
