And did your parents want you to go out in a family gathering but you don’t have time? Are you free enough to pursue your hobby of playing badminton or reading a couple of cooks? If your life is not permitting you anytime to spare time for yourself and your family and friends then you need to surely correct the lost work life balance. 

A survey of several employees show that those with a near to ideal work balance, enjoy their work and personal life more than the ones who do not have work life balance. They are more motivated to work and are less lethargic.

So here are a few tips to help you improve the ruined work life balance:

1. Turn off distractions

Be it your mobile phone calls, whats app or Facebook or any other distraction that spoils your concentration, turn them off. Maintain a healthy distance between your personal time and official commitments. When it comes to work, do not keep distractions near you. It will hamper your productivity levels and work life balance consequently. Keep your mobile on flight mode or turn it off when you work on an important presentation or document. You will automatically see a change in the number of hours taken to complete the task. And when the work will get completed in time, you will have more time to spare for other important priorities in hand.

2. Don’t end up being a “YES” man

People pleasers are often loved by many, but in this situation, you entangle get in inconsequential commitments that reap no benefits to you. Feeling of getting fatigued, listlessness and annoyance will pester you mentally because you are either scared of saying a ‘No’ or avoid disappointing others. Always remember that saying a ‘yes’ can take you to great heights but learning to say a ‘no’ will let you gain a control of your life. This will also keep you mentally satisfied and calm. For maintaining consistent work life balance, learning to say a ‘no’ to matters that holds no relevance in your life is a more practical way. 

3. Develop a support network to delegate responsibilities

Whether at home or in the office, you need not take the load of every responsibility on your shoulders. Look for people around you who can help you streamline the load of your responsibilities. Seek the help of your spouse, appoint a home help, or ask your parents to take care of issues that are causing troubles in your life. When at work, seek assistance from juniors and talk to your manager about the workload so that your work life doesn’t seem cluttered.

4. Leave work at work place

A very practical tips which might sound difficult, but this is one tried and tested method that will keep you mentally calm. If you have some additional task at home, invest some extra hours completing your pending work, but when you punch out from the office, do not think of work or bring work at home. This habit will annoy your family and you will juggle between work and family on daily basis.

5. It’s your life; set your own rules

From the list of myriad tasks that you are supposed to complete within deadline, pick and choose the ones that you can accomplish. Make deliberate choices about what you want from your life. If you can work more effectively from home, check if your organization has a facility of work-from-home and take one day in a week when you can save yourself from the labour of commuting. If you are more comfortable in flexible work time that lets you manage both household chores and office commitments then request for different timings.

6. Enjoy your weekends and vacation

True to the core, when its weekend, enjoy the feeling of TGIF and plan something good to rejuvenate your mind and body. Go for a short trip, if you are too tired, book a spa. Go out for lunch with family and make them feel special. Call your friends and plan some outing and relish your good old days when there was no worries of the work life. Make yourself feel good about the achievements in life and treat weekends as the best time of the week when you can feel the joy of ‘ME’ time.

7. Do not ignore the sleep time

Working more and sleeping less to achieve the targets will eventually harvest negative energy in you. Sleeping is quite instrumental in keeping your work life sane. When your mind and body has had sufficient amount of rest, you are up to face any challenge and mind remains activated to come up with fresh ideas. For a person of working age between 26-64 years, a sleep of 7-9 hours is recommended by the doctors. Research shows, people getting these number of hours of sleep are more alert, less stressed and show signs of strong memory.
