As per the latest UPSC Exam Calendar 2017, UPSC will conduct the Civil Services (IAS) Prelims Exam 2017 on 18 June 2017. UPSC has recently issued its yearly exam calendar for the year 2017. In the Exam calendar, UPSC notified that it will issue the Civil Services 2017 Notification on 22 February 2017, and the closing date for the filling up the form will be 17 March 2017.
The IAS Prelims Exam will be conducted on 18 June 2017. So the candidates will be getting around 4 months of time for the IAS Preparation from the date of notification. In the same way the IAS Main will be conducted in the month of October. The IAS Main will be commencing from 28 October 2017. It means that the time gap between the IAS Prelims and the IAS Main Exam will be 4 months approximately.
In the current year the Civil Services (IAS) Prelims will be conducted on 7 August 2016 Civil Services (IAS) Main will commence from 3 December 2016. We can deduce that this year also the candidates are getting four months for the IAS Main Preparation.
But the demon lies in the details. The IAS Prelims Exam will be conducted in the Month of June. The average temperature of the June month is above the normal temperature and reaches to 40 to 45 in most parts of the country. So it will be really tough for the IAS aspirants to prepare this high voltage exam in that much of extreme weather conditions. The IAS Prelims requires concentrated studies of at least two months in addition to the IAS Main Exam Preparation. This can cause serious health issues to the IAS aspirants such as De-hydration, diarrhea and the other like diseases.
Majority of the IAS aspirants are living in the rented accommodations away from their parental home. The Month of June is characterised with the high mercury levels with no respite from the Monsoon showers in the North India. I hamper the preparations of the IAS aspirants in more than one way. The Examination centers in the cities are not so well equipped to handle the June temperature in the whole of North India.
In addition to this, the Civil Service Main Exam will commence from 28 October which will occur in the season of festivals such as Dusshera, Diwali and the likes. Though the weather will be pleasant but the sentiments will be marred by the festive season.
In the holistic manner we can say that UPSC should evolve a better date and time for the IAS Prelims Exam so that the IAS aspirants can get the respite from the June Temperature and prepare in a better way for the Civil Services (IAS) Prelims Exam 2017.
