West Bengal Sanctioned Various Grants to Boost Sports in Education Institutions

In an endeavor to boost standard of sports and encourage students and youth to participate in various sports and related activities in the state, the West Bengal government has authorized a special grant to numerous schools, colleges as well as universities running in the state.

In an endeavor to boost standard of sports and encourage students and youth to participate in various sports and related activities in the state, the West Bengal government has authorized a special grant to numerous schools, colleges as well as universities running in the state, announced youth Welfare Minister Arup Biswas. He added that this move taken for the first time aims to bring in educational institutions in the list of recipients.

The department of Youth Welfare under this scheme has granted Rs 5,000 each to 9,631 secondary and higher secondary schools, Rs 10,000 each to 499 colleges and Rs 25,000 each to 11 Universities running in the state. The educational institutions located in the districts are to procure grant from the district magistrates, and these Kolkata institution will receive grants from the Department of Education, said Biswas.

Previously, the Bengal government had also sanctioned a grant of Rs two lakh each to 341 blocks, 118 municipalities and 3 notified areas.

Similar to the previous year, the Department for Youth Welfare has presented cheques amounting Rs. 5 lakh each to 9 mountaineers for an adventurous voyage to the Mt Everest.
