Why does the flame burn upright even when the thread associated with the lamp Wick is inverted?

Jul 22, 2015 14:50 IST

    Q. Why does the flame burn upright even when the thread associated with the lamp (Wick) is inverted?

Ans. When a lamp burns, it heats up the surrounding air. Since hot air is lighter than cold air, it rises above, making the flame burn upright and not upside down. That is why the flame burns upright even when the thread associated with the lamp is inverted.
