Privatization of Air India:
As per the Civil Aviation Minister, HS Puri, it is important that as a growing concern one that is attractive to potential bidders we should privatize it. He added that he is hopeful of completing the privatization process by 2020.
The earlier date for the expression of interest, according to the seventh corrigendum issued on June 25, 2020, was till 5 pm on August 31.
Earlier in August 2020, the Central government had further extended the deadline for the expression of interest for the proposed strategic disinvestment of Air India for two months till October 30, 2020, in view of the ongoing situation of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The government has now initiated the process of divesting its share from Air India airlines and is now looking for suitable bidders.
Defending the privatization of airports:
The Union Civil Aviation Minister on the question of the criticism of the privatization of the airports defended the government’s move.
He supported the decision of privatization of airports by the Centre and mentioned that even during the erstwhile Congress rule, the party had decided to privatize the Mumbai and Delhi airports.
