Ashwani Lohani was on 20 August 2015 appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of state owned national carrier Air India Limited. His appointment was approved by the Appointment Cabinet Committee (ACC) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He succeeded senior IAS officer Rohit Nandan whose tenure ended on 21 August 2015. He will have a tenure of three years. Presently, he is working as Managing Director (MD) of Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (MPTDC) in Bhopal.
Lohani is a 1980 batch Indian Railway Service officer of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME). He is a qualified mechanical engineer and is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).
He is the founder member of the Indian Steam Railway Society (ISRS) and member of CII National Council on Tourism. He is also life member of Museums Associations of India and Institute of Rolling Stock Engineers.
He has written two books, these are Winning at work against all odds’ and a coffee table book Smoking Beauties.
