State-run power equipment maker Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) announced on 19 May 2011 the successful manufacture and testing of India's first turbo generator of 600 MW rating. The new state-of-the-art generator turbo generator will be supplied and installed at the upcoming North Chennai Thermal Power Project of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB). The turbo generators will cater to the requirements of thermal power stations with supercritical turbines of 660 and 700 MW ratings.
The facility for assembly and testing of this series of generators has been designed and engineered in-house at BHEL’s Haridwar plant.
At BHEL's Haridwar plant several sets of 600 MW, 660 MW, 700 MW and 800 MW ratings are currently under various stages of manufacture.
The new facility has the capability to manufacture and test turbo generators of up to 1000 MW rating and has test pits for assembly of two generators simultaneously.
State-run power equipment maker BHEL today announced the successful manufacture and testing of the country’s first new series Turbo Generator of 600 MW rating.
The successful testing of the generators enabled BHEL set a new benchmark with the respect to indigenous manufacture of thermal sets with supercritical parameters.
BHEL has already enhanced its power equipment manufacturing capacity to 15,000 MW per annum and plans to further increase it to 20000 MW per annum by March 2012.
