British Scientists discovered a cholesterol regulating protein called LXR which plays an important role in the formation of thrombosis a kind of blood clot that can result into heart attacks and strokes.
The breakthrough in understanding the role of protein, LXR, in causing thrombosis could help in finding the way for new and better treatments for the condition and can help save thousands of lives every year.
According to the research published in the journal Blood, by developing drugs that can control LXR, scientists will be able to prevent thrombosis and also control cholesterol levels. It could also help fight against heart and circulatory diseases which kill 191000 people a year in UK.
