With the official designation of the Guru Ghasidas National Park and Tamor Pingla Wildlife Sanctuary as a new tiger reserve by the Chhattisgarh government, the state now has four tiger reserves.
This significant declaration came after the state's Public Relations Department posted a notification on November 4, 2024, outlining the reserve's specified territory. The new tiger reserve will be now known as Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve.

Chhattisgarh has reaffirmed its commitment to tiger conservation by establishing the Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve, furthering efforts to protect these iconic big cats in the state's lush natural habitats. This new reserve is part of India's broader initiative to expand protected areas and safeguard wildlife.

On November 18, 2024, Union Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav congratulated Chhattisgarh on the achievement via social media platform X. He shared:

Chhattisgarh New Tiger Reserve: Key Details
With a core area of 2,049.2 sq km, comprising the Guru Ghasidas National Park and Tamor Pingla Wildlife Sanctuary, the Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve has a total size of 2,829.38 sq km. The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) recommended that the government of Chhattisgarh notify the Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve in the districts of Manendragarh, Chirmiri-Bharatpur, Korea, Surajpur, and Balrampur.
Third Largest Tiger Reserve
With a buffer zone of 780.15 square kilometers, the reserve is the third largest tiger reserve in the nation, behind the Manas Tiger Reserve in Assam and the Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve in Andhra Pradesh.
A Support to Project Tiger
This new tiger reserve reflects ongoing efforts to protect wildlife and expand the network of protected areas, ensuring a harmonious balance between nature and human development.
With this new reserve, Chhattisgarh now has four tiger reserves, boosting efforts to protect tigers with ongoing support from the National Tiger Conservation Authority under Project Tiger.
