President Ram Nath Kovind has given his assent to promulgate an ordinance that seeks to establish a committee to run the Medical Council of India until Parliament passes legislation to replace the body with a new commission.
The Supreme Court on August 27 had reserved its order on the issue of constituting a committee to deal with issues pertaining to jails and suggest reforms for prisons across the country. The bench was hearing a matter relating to inhuman conditions in 1,382 prisons across India.

Another ministerial panel chaired by Sushil Kumar Modi on Reverse Charge Mechanism (RCM) recommended replacing the present Section 9(4) with a new Section 9(4) which will permit the government to notify specific class of registered persons who would be covered under RCM provision.
