Postal stamp of Doordarshan released on 60th anniversary
• Prakash Javadekar, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, released a postal stamp to commemorate 60 years of Doordarshan.
• I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar highlighted the various achievements of the public broadcaster and also presented DD Annual Awards 2019 on the occasion.
• It was established on 15 September 1959 and India's one of the largest broadcasting organizations in terms of studio and transmitter infrastructure.
Former AP Speaker KSP Rao commits suicide
• Kodela Prasad Rao was recently booked by the Andhra Pradesh police for shifting furniture from the assembly to his home in Guntur.
• In 2014 elections he had won the seat with a margin of about 900 seats.
• Kodela Rao was reportedly upset over the number of cases registered against him and his family members over different issues.
NASA probe to fly over Vikram lander
• NASA’s lunar probe will be flying over the crash-landing site on September 17 while ISRO has been trying to establish contact with the Vikram lander since September 7.
• NASA probe is expected to unveil added information about the condition of the lander, which may aid India in its efforts to connect with the ground station.
• The US space agency’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) is supposed to send back images that it captures of the lander.
Survey of India to map India with 300 drones
• SoI or Survey of India, historically tasked with mapping the country, will for the first time rely on drones to map the country.
• The project of mapping will create high-resolution maps of the land in villages facilitating the digitisation of land titles in villages, according to officials involved with the survey.
• The objective is to map 75% of India’s geography, about 2.4 million sq km of the 3.2 million sq km, within the next two years.
