The cyber division of the Indian government, Cyberdost, has sent a warning alerting iOS users to a "Transnational scam" that deceives victims by tricking them into clicking on URLs shared via iMessage.
According to Cyberdost, cybercriminals are specifically targeting Apple users by sending fake messages with clickable links. They create a sense of urgency, prompting users to act quickly and fall into their trap.

How is This Fake Message Scam Working?
These cybercriminals follow a specific modus operandi to lure victims into their scheme. Check the following points to understand how these scammers might make you a victim of cybercrime:
- Threat actors send fake iMessages to Apple users.
- The message falsely informs users that a package or courier is being delivered to the wrong address.
- The message instructs users to click on a provided link to change their address information.
- Users are urged to respond to the fake message within a day or a certain time.
What will Happen if You Click the Link?
The message's URL may direct users to fraudulent websites or encourage them to download dangerous files that might compromise their security.
Once your device is corrupted, then it is very easy for the fraudsters to get access to your personal information, including your bank account details, personal images that can be used to blackmail you, or other sensitive information.
How Can You Save Yourself from Cyber Crime?
Although the fake messages are increasingly difficult to identify due to the use of generative AI, they typically come from unknown numbers and create a sense of urgency to pressure the recipient into acting quickly
- Avoid Suspicious Links: Do not click on any links that seem suspicious or are sent by unknown senders.
- Protect Personal Information: Never share personal details, such as bank account information, with unknown individuals.
- Report Suspicious Activity: Report any suspicious messages to the appropriate authorities to help prevent further incidents.
- Be Cautious with Unknown Messages: Refrain from downloading files or sharing personal information if the message is from an unknown source.
