Cyclonic storm struck the north-eastern border districts of Bihar

The storm with a wind speed of more than 150 kmph hit several districts of the state namely Purnia, Madhepura, Madhubani, Katihar, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Bhagalpur and Supaul.

Cyclonic storm struck the north-eastern border districts of Bihar on 21 April 2015. The storm with a wind speed of more than 150 kmph hit several districts of the state namely Purnia, Madhepura, Madhubani, Katihar, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Bhagalpur and Supaul.

It was reported that at least 55 people were killed (maximum number of about 40 was reported from Purnia). The storm also injured over 2000 people and over 4000 animals perished.

Relief and rescue operations have been stepped up in the cyclonic affected areas of the state.

Besides, the state government had announced an ex gratia of 4 lakh rupees to the family of each victim. This announcement was made after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made an aerial survey of the affected areas to assess the situation and the extent of damage.
