INSV Tarini successfully completed the fourth phase of the Navika Sagar Parikrama II expedition and arrived in Cape Town, South Africa. The vessel and its crew were warmly welcomed by India’s Consul General, Ms. Ruby Jaspreet, Chief of Staff of the South African Navy Fleet, Rear Admiral (JG) Lisa Hendricks, and India’s Defence Advisor in Pretoria, Captain Atul Saphia. The South African Navy Band also performed at the port to mark the occasion. -

ISRO’s Earth Observation Satellite CARTOSAT-3 captured high-resolution images of Myanmar’s 7.0 magnitude earthquake on 28 March 2025. The damage assessment for Mandalay and Sagaing regions was conducted by comparing post-disaster images (29 March) with pre-event data (18 March). -

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman recently launched the "NITI NCAER States Economic Forum" portal in New Delhi. Developed by NITI Aayog in collaboration with the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), this portal provides a comprehensive repository of economic, social, and fiscal data, research papers, expert opinions, and reports covering 30 years (1990-91 to 2022-23). -

The central government has set a target of establishing 728 Eklavya Model Residential Schools to benefit nearly 3.5 lakh Scheduled Tribe students across India. So far, 721 schools have been approved, out of which 477 are already operational. This was revealed in a written response in the Rajya Sabha by Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, Durga Das Uikey. The scheme was launched in 2018-19 to provide quality education to tribal children in their own cultural environment. -

Swaminathan S. Aiyar was recently appointed as the Full-time Member (Life) of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI). His appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on 25 March 2025. This is a significant move as Aiyar is the first private-sector professional to hold this position, breaking the tradition of appointments from the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC).
