In Delhi NCR, GRAP Stage 4 was implemented by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) at 8 a.m. today after the Air Quality Index (AQI) fell into the "severe plus" category.
This decision was reached following an urgent meeting of the GRAP subcommittee on November 17, during which they examined current air quality measurements, weather data, and IMD and IITM forecasts.
Delhi AQI Falls Into ‘Severe Plus’ Category
On Sunday, the NCR's air pollution problem became worse. At 4 p.m., Delhi's average Air Quality Index hit a critical level of 441, which is in the "severe" category, up from 419 the day before.
According to CPCB data, the quality of the air steadily declines during the day. It was the fourth'severe' day of the month, with Delhi's AQI rising from 421 at 9am to 468 at 10pm. The most recent'severe plus' rating was recorded at 454 on November 13. After 447 on January 14, the 4pm reading of 441 is the second-highest measurement of the year.
Are Schools Closed in Delhi?
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi declared in a statement posted on X that all students, with the exception of those in courses 10 and 12, will no longer attend in-person courses as of Monday. Until further notice, schools will continue to use virtual platforms for instruction.
What are Different GRAP Stages?
With the worsening air quality in the national capital,the Delhi government has decided to implement GRAP-IV in the state. The sub-committee had earlier implemented Stage-I on October 14, Stage-II on October 21, and Stage-III on November 14.

Grap-IV in Delhi: What’s Allowed and What’s Banned?
GRAP-IV measures add to the limitations that were already in place during stages 1-3. Construction-related exemptions for public infrastructure projects have now been removed by the commission. Along with BS-4 and older diesel-powered medium and heavy freight vehicles, the restrictions also forbid non-emergency trucks and light commercial vehicles that do not comply with BS 6.
