The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has decided to extend the suspension of scheduled international commercial passenger services to and from India till October 31, 2020.
However, as per the governing body, the international cargo flights and passenger flights approved by the government will continue to operate. DGCA also added that the international scheduled flights may be allowed on selected routes on case to case basis.

The announcement by the DGCA came shortly after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) released Unlock 5 guidelines and shortly before the expiration of its previous circular, in which international flights were banned till September 30, 2020.
Arun Kumar, DGCA Chief had earlier informed that the full-fledged resumption of international flight operations will depend on the state of the pandemic all over the world as lot countries are still enforcing quarantine measures. It will take some time to have fully operative international flights.
Operation of special international flights:
It must be noted that India has been running special international flights under the government’s Vande Bharat Mission to bring back Indians stranded abroad due to international travel bans in various regions.
The Indian government has also formed an air bubble agreement with 15 countries for international travel. On September 29, 2020, more destinations were also added by the civil aviation ministry, including Kenya and Bhutan, to the list of the countries where Indians can fly under the air bubble agreement.
Air bubble travel between India and Bhutan and India and Kenya has now become operational, as the national carrier of all the three nations aims to restore commercial passenger services to the pre-pandemic level.
