An explosion rocked an international terminal of Moscow’s busiest airport on 24 January 2011. The explosion is being perceived by Russian officials described as an apparent terrorist attack. The bomb went off at 1902 IST in the baggage claim area of the international arrival sector. The Health Ministry reported that at least 35 people had been killed and 130 injured. The power of the blast was between 5-10 kg equivalents of TNT. In March 2010 two suicide bombers detonated explosives on the city’s subway during rush hour. 40 people were killed in that attack which was traced to two women from Dagestan. The rebel leader Doku Umarov had taken responsibility for the March 2010 attack. In August 2004, two Chechen suicide bombers boarded separate planes at Domodedovo airport before killing themselves and 88 others in midair.
