Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg granted an honorary Knighthood
Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg was bestowed an honorary knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II.
Former New York Mayor and philanthropist billionaire Michael Rubens Bloomberg on 6 October 2014 was granted an honorary knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II in Britain.
Bloomberg, who is well known for his love of Britain, was honoured for his prodigious entrepreneurial and philanthropic endeavours and his works that have benefitted British-US relations.
As an American, Bloomberg is not entitled to call himself Sir Mike but can add the initials KBE, an abbreviation for Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire, to the end of his name.
