French President Nicolas Sarkozy on 14 November 2010 reappointed Francois Fillon as Prime Minister. The ministry witnessed reshuffling where certain ministers continued to hold post while some were replaced. Fillon was asked to create a new government. The reshuffling was expected ahead of the French Presidential election scheduled to be held in 2012.
Foreign and defence ministers were replaced as part of a significant cabinet reshuffle. Former justice minister Michele Alliot-Marie replaced Bernard Kouchner as foreign minister and Alain Juppe became defence minister in place of Herve Morin. Christine Lagarde will remain as economy minister.
