The reshuffling was expected ahead of the French Presidential election scheduled to be held in 2012.
Foreign and defence ministers were replaced as part of a significant cabinet reshuffle. Former justice minister Michele Alliot-Marie replaced Bernard Kouchner as foreign minister and Alain Juppe became defence minister in place of Herve Morin. Christine Lagarde will remain as economy minister.
