Foreign ministers from the G8 on 15 March 2011 failed to reach any agreement on military intervention in Libya during the two-day summit in Paris. Despite France pushing for a no-fly zone, G8 nations couldn’t reach consensus on the establishment of a no-fly zone against Qadhafi’s forces in Libya. Germany and Russia blocked flight restrictions sought by Britain and France. However, the G8 foreign ministers urged the United Nations to increase pressure on Qadhafi to step down from power using other means including economic sanctions.
The G8 also expressed concern about the possible nuclear catastrophe in Japan.
G8 comprises world’s 8 nations, USA, Canada, Italy, France, Germany, UK, Japan and Russia.
