The world’s fastest-growing major automaker, Hyundai Motor Company on 8 February 2011 signed a deal today with the International Cricket Council (ICC) to become the ICC’s first, official car partner for a period between 2011 and 2015. According to the agreement signed ICC officials and players will use Hyundai cars for all official transportation during ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. Hyundai will also be the transportation partner for ICC’s other competitions, such as the Champions Trophy and the World Twenty20. The 2011 ICC World Cup is scheduled to be played 19 February and 2 April 2011 in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The competition will participated by 14 nations and there will be 49 matches played.
Hyundai’s deal with ICC marked its effort to expand its global sports marketing activities and boost its brand image worldwide. Hyundai already has in place an 11-year association with FIFA, serving as the official automotive supplier to all FIFA-sanctioned events around the world. Hyundai is currently one of FIFA’s top partners and has extended its strategic sponsorship agreement with FIFA to cover the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Hyundai Motor Co. Which was established in 1967 has over the years grown into the Hyundai Motor Group which has been ranked as the world’s fifth-largest automaker since 2007 and includes more than two dozen auto-related subsidiaries and affiliates. Hyundai Motor sold approximately 3.6 million vehicles globally in 2010. Hyundai vehicles are sold in 186 countries through some 5300 dealerships and showrooms.
