The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) invited Taiwan's famous Ju Percussion Group (JPG) to give a performance, Heartbeat of Taiwan at Kamani Auditorium on 18 April 2011. Considered to be a musical milestone between Taiwan and India, the performance will be an amalgamation of Western and Chinese elements. The JPG group prepared eight pieces of its own musical creation for the Indian audience. Internationally well-known composer Koji Sakurai created two pieces of music for the performance by adapting two film scores, one of them being Jai HO from the Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire.
Ju Percussion Group will play in India on their 25th anniversary. The group is capable of combining both Chinese and Western percussion instruments. A total of 155 music pieces was created by the group in the past 25 years.
The elements gathered in the creations include various musical styles from the aboriginal in Taiwan, Okinawa in Japan and the ethnic musical element from Balkan Peninsula.
Organised by ICCR and Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre, the percussion group will also perform in Mumbai on 21 April 2011.
