The Union Power and New & Renewable Energy Minister R.K. Singh on September 9, 2021, met Danish Minister for Climate, Energy, and Utilities Dan Jorgensen where both agreed on further engaging in renewable energy, particularly offshore wind and green hydrogen.
During the meeting, Union Minister R.K. Singh underlined to his Danish counterpart that the energy transition towards green is a significant part of India’s policy. The two ministers also jointly launched the ‘Centre of Excellence on Offshore Wind’ as part of the Green Strategic Partnership.
As per the official statement by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, in the meeting, from India, Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Bhagwanth Kuba, MNRE Secretary Indu Shekhar Chaturvedi, as well as other senior officials, were also present.

Transition towards green part of India’s policy:
• During the meeting, Union Minister R.K. Singh pointed that the transition towards green is a significant part of India’s policy.
• Prime Minister Modi in his Independence Day speech has also set a target of 450 Gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030. Currently, India’s renewable energy portfolio is at 146 GW.
• India is also the only G20 country whose actions are in consonance with the Paris Climate Agreement regarding the global rise in temperature.
• While discussing the potential of green energy, the Union Minister said that India has been looking at making Ladakh and islands such as Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar green in energy including transport.
Centre of Excellence on Offshore Wind: Key details• The Centre of Excellence on Offshore Wind was jointly launched by the ministers of India and Denmark as part of the ‘Green Strategic Partnership’. • The latest centre at the outset will be centered around four working groups, including the financial framework conditions, spatial planning, supply chain infrastructure, standards, and testing. • The Centre of Excellence (CoE), in the initial phases, will focus on the offshore wind sector. • In the medium to long term, it will broaden to include a wider group of international governments and players. The Centre will accumulate experience and the best practices on offshore wind and will become an international centre for offshore wind with broader links to new and renewable energy. |
India, Denmark to focus on offshore wind energy:
India and Denmark have agreed to further their cooperation in renewable energy with a focus on offshore wind energy.
The two nations already have an agreement on the ‘Strategic Sector Cooperation in the field of Renewable Energy with a focus on Offshore Wind Energy’. The Danish minister also invited RK Singh to Denmark to take a first-hand look at the country’s work in offshore wind energy.
